This stunning low maintenance garden has a real Middle Eastern feel. The client has lived in Dubai and was keen to bring this to the garden, so clean lines and pale paving were used to reflect this. Privacy was a big factor, with a building behind overlooking both the garden and house. To combat this, a new fence was erected and Carpinus betulus (hornbeam) trees planted. The terrace was moved from near the house, to the corner of the garden, along with a new pavilion. This pavilion both covered the neighbours garage and being south west facing, creates the perfect outdoor entertaining area. A public walkway also runs behind the dropped wall, so composite batten was used to add height and create further privacy. The garden shed, bbq and washing line have also been discreetly hidden with batten fencing.
This garden is a crossover between hard and soft landscaping, with the paving giving the opportunity to walk around it all year round. The planting is structural and architectural, with ferns, grasses and a splash of blue for some seasonal colour. Garden lighting has been used across the space which looks stunning at night.
