The existing garden was dominated by very high retaining brick walls which intersected the garden blocking the views front the house and creating dangerous drop offs. The objective was to create a family friendly garden with good access and sight lines; quite a challenge when considering the dramatic level changes!
The solution was to work with the existing retaining walls, cutting into them to create curved planting terraces and raised beds to reduce the drop and open up the views between levels.
The lower level wall was pushed back to create a decked terrace immediately outside a set of sliding doors and a wide central stairway opens up the view to the garden levels beyond. The top plateau was levelled and laid to lawn and planted borders of evergreen shrubs protect the areas where high drops remain. The trees were retained and a summerhouse installed with a garden shed tucked behind.
